Curriculum
Kurikulum Merdeka: The "Independent Curriculum" (Kurikulum Merdeka) is Indonesia’s new educational framework introduced by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. It is part of the Merdeka Belajar ("Freedom to Learn") initiative, aimed at enhancing the quality of education by providing schools, teachers, and students with more flexibility (Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, n.d.).

SMANLI, following this curriculum, offers five subject combinations for Grades 10-11:
-
Combination Class 1: Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Advanced Mathematics (for students interested in health-related careers)
-
Combination Class 2: Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Advanced Mathematics (for students interested in a blend of science subjects)
-
Combination Class 3: Informatics, Advanced Mathematics, Economics, Sociology (for students leaning toward technology, business, or social sciences)
-
Combination Class 4: Advanced Indonesian Language, Sociology, Economics, Biology (for students passionate about humanities or interdisciplinary studies)
-
Combination Class 5: Advanced Indonesian Language, Physics, Economics, Geography (for students interested in analytical and language skills)
For Grade 12, since the full implementation of Kurikulum Merdeka is still underway, there are currently only two majors offered:
-
Science (IPA): Focuses on studying the universe, living beings, and inanimate objects, emphasizing exact sciences such as mathematics, physics, biology, and chemistry.
-
Social Studies (IPS): Focuses on social life, including economics, history, geography, sociology, and anthropology, analyzing social perspectives.

This curriculum paves the way possibilities for students, allowing them to tailor their education to their passions and strengths. This approach is not just about learning—it’s about shaping the future!

Teaching Methods
At SMANLI, teachers use different methods to cater to the diverse learning styles and needs of students, fostering an inclusive and engaging classroom. These include differentiated instruction, which tailors lessons to students' abilities; project-based learning, encouraging collaboration and real-world problem-solving; and formative assessments, allowing teachers to adjust strategies based on student progress. Interactive tools, like digital resources and group discussions, are also used to boost engagement and enhance understanding.
To dive deeper, you can explore my observations of the teaching methods employed by the teachers I had the chance to observe during my practicum.

03
Classroom Management
Classroom management is a key component of teaching at SMANLI. Teachers prioritize creating a well-organized and supportive environment to facilitate effective learning. They implement strategies that ensure smooth classroom operations, promote student engagement, and maintain a positive atmosphere. Common routines in the classroom include starting with greetings, arranging the classroom, and checking attendance. This is followed by a quick review of the previous lesson before moving on to the new topic.
04
Assessment and Evaluation
At SMANLI, teachers use different activities to check students' progress in all areas of learning. These activities include reading, writing, listening, and speaking exercises, all designed to help students improve specific skills. In addition to these, teachers also give long tests and end-of-semester exams to measure students' overall understanding of the material.

Teachers also use authentic assessments to see how well students can apply what they've learned in real-world situations. To learn more about how this works, you can check out my class observations for more details.
05
Technology and Resources
At SMANLI, teachers are going beyond books; they are adapting to current trends by incorporating technology into their lessons. They use digital resources, interactive apps, and online platforms to make learning more engaging and dynamic. This approach not only makes classes more enjoyable but also equips students with essential digital skills that will benefit them in the future.
To get a detailed look at how technology and other resources are integrated into lessons, feel free to check out the information based on my class observations.
